A grandmother's open door. The winter spent snowed in with nowhere to go. The conviction that if the place doesn't exist, you build it.
When I was a child, I would visit my grandmother — my Mamie — in Nice. I can still see her big wooden shutters, espresso and treats on the counter, a revolving door of family and friends, and a beautiful slowness to it all. Chez Mamie is named for her, and built, as best we can, in her image. And just as I found joy being the little one along for her ride, we designed a space for adults who bring the kids: real espresso, fresh pastries, and a beautiful space, built around safe, imaginative play that never feels crowded.
The realization came in the winter of 2026 when I was maternity leave with my second. It was one of the worst snow seasons. I was home with our two kids, and realized there was nowhere to go that worked for all of us. What I wanted was simple: a genuinely good espresso, a comfortable seat, a safe and beautiful place for my children to play, and enough time to finish a conversation.
Around the same time, a good friend shared a podcast with me from Priya Parker, who said, "The best gathering is simply the space you wish existed. If it doesn't exist, build it."
I listened. I built it. Welcome to your neighborhood café where children play and parents stay.
